Demuth Invitational: American Reflections
I am honored to be included in the Demuth Invitational: American Reflections, alongside so many artists whose work I admire. The prompt to reflect on my American experience sent me on a longer journey than I expected, and I am grateful for the opportunity to sit with it.
When I am abroad, my experience as an American feels most poignant. I am struck by cultures that prioritize beauty, sensory experience, and the savoring of ordinary moments. It's odd how this way of life can feel radical to someone who has spent their life here. Often my work depicts the ineffable and unseen, a space that defies measurement and utility.
I created Nexus during an artist residency in Madrid. Inspired by arabesque motifs and sacred geometry, this piece grew from a single compass arc and found its own direction from there, palette and form shaped by a sense of place. It is part of a group of pieces that mark a transition from paintings rooted in landscape toward my recent work that is more atmospheric and untethered.
The Demuth Invitational: American Reflections opens with a reception on Friday, March 27 from 5 to 8 pm at the Demuth Museum in Lancaster.
The exhibition runs March 28 - June 28, 2026, and is open Saturday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm.
